CR Cautions New Magistrates Against Complacency
CR Addressing New Magistrates Grade at the Judiciary Headquarters in Kampala

On Wednesday November 24, 2021, the Chief Registrar, HW Sarah Langa Siu, in a first of its kind, held a meeting with new 48 Magistrates Grade One to prepare them for their deployment.

At the session that took place at the Judiciary Headquarters, the CR emphasized that the magistrates were expected to report at their duty stations on Thursday, November 25, 2021 since their deployments are with immediate effect. She urged them to secure letters that acknowledge assumption of duty as it is a requirement to be added to the payroll.

She however cautioned against complacency. "Choose to stand for what is right, do not allow bad mentorship," the CR stressed.  

Adding that the first days might be humbling and challenging, but this would call for resilience and patience. She urged the new appointees to shun greed for quick money.

The Registrar High Court, HW Samuel Emokor, called upon the new judicial officers to uphold the Judicial code of Conduct. "Hold on to the oath you have taken and do not compromise your ethics," he remarked, adding that their behavior affects the public image of the Judiciary.

On her part, HW Rosemary Bareebe, the Registrar Magistrates Affairs and Data Management emphasized to the group the need to always consult and submit monthly reports to the office of the Chief Registrar.

Other tips on leading a successful Judicial career, as shared by the Registrars, included hard work, continuous learning,  research, diligence and consciousness.

The brief followed the swearing-in ceremony presided over by the Chief Justice, Hon. Justice Alfonse Chigamoy Owiny - Dollo.
